Silicon nitride ceramic bearings and bearing balls are widely used in new energy vehicles, precision machine tools, wind power, aerospace and other fields with their outstanding advantages of lightweight, high hardness and excellent resistance to severe environments (-60°C to 1200°C). Silicon nitride bearings’ wear resistance is 3-5 times that of steel bearings, and they support ultra-high speed operation (20000-30000rpm) and can significantly reduce maintenance costs. They are a key technical solution for upgrading high-end equipment in the future.
Silicon nitride bearing balls have become the critical components in the field of modern high-end equipment due to their unique material properties. With a density of only 2/5 of steel (about 3.2g/cm³), they can significantly reduce the inertial resistance during high-speed rotation. Meanthile, their Rockwell hardness is as high as 92-94, and their wear resistance is 3-5 times higher than that of traditional steel bearing balls, which can significantly extend the service life of the bearings.
Under severe working conditions, silicon nitride bearing balls can show excellent stability, with a wide range of -60°C to 1200°C. They are resistant to acid and alkali corrosion, non-magnetic, and highly insulating, which makes them perfect for harsh environments such as aerospace engines and vacuum semiconductor equipment. For instance, in the drive motors of new energy vehicle, they can support ultra-high speeds of 20,000-30,000rpm, which reduce the friction losses by 30%, and thus directly improve the vehicle’s durability.
Compared with traditional steel bearing balls, silicon nitride bearing balls can also reduce the lubrication dependence by 90%, which can reduce long-term maintenance costs. At present, its application has expanded to the main shafts of wind turbine, precision machine tools, medical MRI equipment and other fields.
ADVANTAGES OF SILICON NITRDE:
The weight of silicon nitride bearing balls is only 2/5 of that of steel bearing balls (about 3.2g/cm³), which can greatly reduce the weight of the bearings and thus they’re suitable for high-speed rotation.
Silicon nitride has a Rockwell hardness of HRA 92-94. Silicon nitride bearing balls have excellent wear resistance, and a lifespan that is 3-5 times longer than that of steel bearing balls.
Silicon nitride bearing balls have stable mechanical properties below 1000°C and can withstand 1400°C for a short time, which far exceeds the limit of steel bearing balls.
Silicon nitride is highly inert to acids, alkalis, salts and organic solvents, which is suitable for harsh environments.
Silicon nitride has a compression strength of 1500MPa and has strong resistance to impact load.
Silicon nitride has an elastic modulus of about 320GPa. Its high rigidity can reduce the deformation and ensure the operating accuracy.
